- Fatigue - feeling tired all of the time
- Shortness of breath
- Hoarseness - a croaky voice
- Ongoing pain in the chest, neck, upper back or shoulder
- Unintentional weight loss
- A chest infection that won't go away/keeps coming back
- Coughing up blood
- Persistent enlarged lymph nodes around the collarbone in the neck
We support EGFR Positive UK
What is EGFR?
EGFR stands for epidermal growth factor receptor. EGFR is protein involved in the growth and division of healthy cells. For some NSCLC (Non-small Cell Lung Cancer) sufferers there is a mutation (or damage) to the gene coding for this protein which means it can be significantly over expressed. This can cause cells to grow out of control and lead to cancer.
Who are EGFR Positive UK?
EGFR Positive UK is a registered charity established by patients and their families and friends. Their purpose is to improve the overall survival and quality of life of EGFR positive lung cancer patients across the United Kingdom.
They do not offer specific medical advice, but do have an active Facebook group for patients, family and carers. They share information across their social media pages, and they regularly consult with relevant authoritative bodies on the status of EGFR mutation positive lung cancer in the UK.
What are their aims?
- To provide an information resource for EGFR positive lung cancer patients including sharing information about the latest treatment developments and clinical trials.
- To identify and reach out to EGFR positive patients across the UK so they are able to access support and information from other patients and from their charity.
- To raise awareness of EGFR mutation positive lung cancer; to raise awareness and change perceptions of lung cancer amongst the general population.
- To promote earlier diagnosis of lung cancer, including raising awareness of lung cancer in never-smokers.
- To liaise with and influence decision makers such as NICE, PHE and the DVLA.
- To liaise with other lung cancer community partners, for example the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, the UKLCC, and pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
- To raise funds to support all the above activities.
